Privacy Policy – Cookies, Data & Google AdSense
This Privacy Policy explains what information TickerLean (“we”, “us”, the website at tickerlean.com) processes when you use the website, why, and what choices you have. We designed the website to work without accounts and without asking for personal data.
1. Who is responsible
TickerLean is operated by an individual operator. For any privacy question or request, contact us at thevanhalen@gmail.com.
2. Information we process
a) Searches you make
When you search for or select a ticker symbol or company name, your query is sent to our servers (hosted on Cloudflare) so we can retrieve market data from Yahoo Finance and calculate indicators. The query contains no account or identity information. The result of a search (market data and calculated indicators for a security) is cached for a limited time so that repeated requests are faster; cached data relates to securities, not to people.
b) Technical and log data
Like any website, our hosting and security provider Cloudflare processes technical data that your browser sends automatically, such as your IP address, request time, requested address, browser type, device type and approximate location derived from the IP address. This is used to deliver the website, protect it from abuse and attacks, and measure capacity. We do not use this data to identify you personally.
c) Data stored in your browser
If you star a stock, the list of favorites is saved in your own browser’s local storage (key tickerlean.favs). It is not sent to our servers. You can delete it at any time by removing the stars or clearing your browser’s site data. If you clear site data or use another browser or device, the list will not be available.
d) Messages you send us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to respond to you and keep it only as long as needed for that purpose.
We do not ask you to create an account and we do not knowingly collect names, addresses, payment details or other sensitive information.
3. Cookies and similar technologies
TickerLean itself does not set advertising or tracking cookies of its own. Our infrastructure provider may set strictly necessary cookies for security and performance (for example to distinguish human visitors from bots). Third parties that serve advertising on our pages may use cookies, local storage and similar identifiers, as explained in the next section. You can control or delete cookies in your browser settings; blocking some cookies may affect how parts of a website work.
4. Advertising (Google AdSense)
We may display advertisements served by Google and its advertising partners. If and when advertising is enabled on this website, the following applies:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info, or, in Europe, at youronlinechoices.com.
- For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, personalised advertising and non-essential cookies are used only with your consent, which you can give or withdraw through the consent message shown on the website.
- To learn how Google uses data when you use our website, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and Google’s Privacy Policy.
Advertisers and ad networks collect data under their own privacy policies; we do not control them and do not receive your personal data from them.
5. Why we process data (legal bases)
- Providing the website you request and keeping it secure and reliable: our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) and, where applicable, performance of a service you asked for.
- Advertising cookies and similar technologies: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR) where required by law.
- Answering your emails: our legitimate interests in responding to enquiries.
6. Who receives data
- Cloudflare, Inc.: hosting, content delivery, caching and security.
- Yahoo: we send ticker symbols and company-name queries (not your IP address or any identifier of you) from our servers to obtain market data.
- Google and its advertising partners: if advertising is enabled, as described above.
- Authorities or advisers where we are legally required to disclose data or need to protect our rights.
We do not sell your personal information for money.
7. International transfers
Our providers operate globally, so your data may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, transfers rely on safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or the provider’s certification under applicable data-transfer frameworks.
8. How long we keep data
- Cached search results: up to 7 days (analysis results are reused for about 6 hours; search suggestions for about 1 hour).
- Server and security logs: kept by Cloudflare under its own retention schedule.
- Emails to us: only as long as needed to handle your request, then deleted.
- Favorites: in your browser until you delete them.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, to withdraw consent at any time, and to lodge a complaint with a data-protection authority. Residents of the Republic of Korea have corresponding rights under the Personal Information Protection Act, including the right to request access, correction, deletion and suspension of processing. Residents of California and certain other US states may have the right to know, delete, correct and opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, including for cross-context behavioural advertising; you can opt out of personalised advertising using the links in section 4. We do not discriminate against anyone for exercising these rights.
Because we do not collect data that identifies you directly, we may need extra information from you to find data that relates to you. To exercise a right, email thevanhalen@gmail.com. We aim to reply within 30 days.
10. Children
TickerLean is not directed to children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
The website is served over HTTPS, and we keep the amount of data we handle to a minimum. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. External links
The website may link to third-party sites. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above shows the latest version. Material changes will be highlighted on this page.
